What is (Social) Distance Learning?
We know small businesses and freelancers are hurting right now. And we know the Alt Summit Community is largely made up of small businesses and freelances. So we’ve been thinking and thinking about how we can offer support. (Social) Distance Learning is a way to support our community while offering two of Alt Summit biggest strengths: Community and Content. We’re paying some of our fabulous Alt Summit 2020 presenters to record their presentations so we can upload them on our video channel. As a participant, you have access to these videos (and accompanying materials) whenever is convenient for you.
Where does (Social) Distance Learning take place?
Wherever you are! You can watch the video presentations whenever and wherever is convenient for you. They will be available on our Vimeo channel.
When do the sessions start?
You can access most of the videos now, the remaining videos will be uploaded this week. There will be a total of 15 sessions.
How do I access the videos?
After you register, you’ll be sent an email with instructions on how and where to login. Once you’re logged in, you’ll be able to access all the classes plus any bonus material the presenters included.
Why $15 for 15 classes? Why not make the video classes free?
We want to support small businesses in our community who may be hurting because of virus-related shut-downs, and charging even a small amount will allow us to hire more presenters, and help more people. Think of the $15 fee as a donation to support small businesses.
Alt Summit will fund the first (Social) Distance Learning Session. And the community will fund additional sessions via $15 fees.
Even $15 is too much for me right now.
We get that. And luckily, we know there are people in our community who would be happy to pay on your behalf. So we’re figuring out a Scholarship Program as we speak. If you are someone who needs a $15 scholarship, or someone who can provide a $15 scholarship, please email hello@altitudesummit.com and let us know.
If there’s a second group of 15 classes, will I need to pay $15 again to access the second set?
Yes. For each group of 15-classes, the fee will be $15. This way we can continue to compensate our presenters.
What’s your refund policy?
No refunds will be given for (Social) Distance Learning sessions.
What if I attended Alt Summit 2020? Do I get free access to these classes?
Complimentary video-recorded sessions are not included with your Alt Summit ticket. (Though we do offer free Keynote videos!) Consider the $15 fee a donation to support small businesses.
Please be aware, this program is not a revenue stream for Alt Summit. All proceeds will go directly to pay additional presenters to teach classes, and to staff for running the program.
Where will the video classes be hosted? And how will I get access to them once I pay the $15 fee?
The videos will be hosted on Vimeo and will be password protected. Once you pay your fee, you’ll be sent the password. The program will launch with a minimum of 3 video classes ready to watch, and the remaining videos (totaling 15) will be posted within 7 days. So if you pay your $15 fee a week or so after launch, you’ll have access to all the videos at once.
What about Keynote videos? Alt Summit has always offered those for free.
Yes, Keynote videos from Alt Summit 2020 are already being uploaded and shared — several have already gone out on social. And everyone will still have free access to these videos. The keynote videos are not part of this program.
How will Alt Summit choose which classes are taught?
The Alt Summit Speaker Team will make decisions based on factors like: how much interest was shown in the class via the app; reviews of the class; requests for certain classes or teachers made via email or instagram; willingness of the presenter to participate; whether or not the topic is a good fit for this program and set of classes, etc..
Will we have access to the video classes once Covid-19 gets under control?
Yes. Once you buy access, you can watch the set of 15 video classes as much as you’d like. Now, or a year from now, or whenever.
