Everywhere where you turn an article or a person is giving you another “should.” You should post consistently. You should promote yourself on social media. You should [INSERT YOUR FAVORITE BEST PRACTICE HERE].
I don’t know about you, but sometimes all these shoulds paralyze me. I’ll have beautifully crafted prose, but I won’t have an image that will shine on Pinterest. So the project runs the risk of waiting in limbo because I don’t want to waste it. Then I have to stop and ask myself, do I love what I created? Was it my best effort? If I can answer yes to both those questions, I stop beating myself up with those shoulds and publish. And often, the results surprise me.
