Did Kelly’s post yesterday get you thinking about your expertise and how you share it with the Alt Community? Here are four steps you can take today as well as a reminder that you have until August 31st to submit your proposal for speaking at Alt Winter 2016.
How to Connect with the Alt Community
Participate in a weekly #AltChat Twitter coffee break (if you’re in PDT)/lunch hour (If you’re in EDT)/happy hour (if you’re on GMT time). Never attended a Twitter party before? Don’t be shy, AltChat is one of the friendliest places on the Internet and everyone’s more than happy to welcome you and answer questions. For some quick pointers about Twitter chats, head here before next Wednesday at 9AM PDT/12PM EDT/4PM GMT.
Contribute a guest post for the Alt Summit blog. Unsure how to pitch a site? Here’s a post on the Do’s and Don’t’s of Guest Posting and one on the specifics of what we look for in blog submissions. Before writing a post, send me an email with your ideas and I’ll let you know if you’re on the right track.
Attend an Alt Summit conference. When you’re with your tribe in person, it’s difficult not to shine. The Alt Community brings out the best in one another. As you talk about what you’re doing and others talk about what they’re doing, you’ll discover and appreciate each other’s strengths. Your strengths can lead to some amazing collaborations.
Speak at an Alt Summit conference. If you’ve been sharing your expertise regularly, why not consider speaking on a panel or leading a roundtable at Alt Winter 2016? For details on how to apply, go here. Don’t wait too long to submit your ideas as the call for speaker proposals closes on August 31st.
New to presenting to a live audience? Consider joining a speech group like Toastmasters. Members meet regularly and practice. It’s a safe environment where you can try new types of presentations and receive friendly feedback and tips.
How have you connected with the Alt Community? We’d love to hear what you’re doing.
