We’re here to brighten up your day with the announcement that Austin Channing Brown will be our Opening Keynote speaker.
Austin Channing Brown is an author and speaker providing inspired leadership on racial justice in America. By using an intentional mix of humor, pop-culture, story-telling, and audience engagement, she awakens people to the current realities of systemic racism and the everyday actions which make it possible. She is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness.
When this first book was released in May 2018, it shot to the top 20 of Amazon’s bestsellers list, leading in its categories for months. I’m Still Here has received acclaim from Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, Booklist, and was chosen for Reese Witherspoon’s book club in the summer of 2020. The book was also featured in the second season of the tv show Bel-Air. In April 2023, Austin released the young readers edition of her book I’m Still Here: Loving Myself in a World Not Made For Me. Her work also appears in two anthologies: Hungry Hearts and You Are Your Best Thing (also a New York Times bestseller).
Austin has a Bachelor of Arts in business management from North Park University as well as a Masters of Arts in social justice from Marygrove College in Detroit. Austin’s professional career began in the non-profit sector including homelessness/housing, fund development, volunteer training, and student life at the university level. She is married with a beautiful son and her puppy Mowgli. She lives in metro-Detroit.
Brown will be speaking on the Alt Keynote Stage on Monday morning at 9:00 AM, and she will be signing books at the Alt Summit pop-up bookshop directly afterwards. It will be an inspiring beginning to the conference.
